Fire Code Warning

The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) has ruled that, since radiant barriers are self-supported when they are installed, they should not be supported by any other materials when tested for flame and smoke. As a result of this ruling, all double-sided radiant barrier products made with traditional aluminum foil FAILED the fire test.

These ASTM fire tests are adopted by international codes like IRC, IBC, IECC and others, which are then mandated by every major code body in the United States. It doesn’t matter if you are doing residential, commercial or industrial buildings, because they all require ASTM testing and certifications.

After much research and development, Texas Heat Management has reconfigured its new product line to pass the stringent new ASTM E84 and ASTM E2599 fire tests. By replacing the aluminum foil with a highly reflective metalized film, our entire product line was able to achieve not only a passing grade, but a perfect flame spread of ZERO.

If you are buying, selling or installing a radiant barrier product that does not meet the new ASTM E84 and ASTM E2599 fire codes, you are at an ENORMOUS LIABILITY. Beware of all of the traditional double-sided aluminum foil radiant barriers. If you are not buying from a representative of Texas Heat Management or Radiant Reflect™, demand to see both ASTM E84 and ASTM E2599 testing and certifications.
